Holly Bowling, Colonel Forbin’s Ascent

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

The Noodles, Mr. Charlie

All right now, it’s the Noodles doing a Grateful Dead blues song, “Mr. Charlie”. And kicking us off tonight Holly Bowling played “Colonel Forbin’s Ascent”. Holly’s got courage entertaining an audience with solo piano.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

I’m Hairy Larry, host of Something Blue. Visit the Something Blue website at sbblues.com to listen anytime. And thanks to the Live Music Archive at archive.org for hosting the concerts I’m playing tonight.

The Noodles were recorded live at Cactus Jack’s in Awatuckee, Arizona, on November 4, 2017. Here they are now with a Reverend Gary Davis slash Blind Willie Johnson song, “Samson And Delilah”. Then we’ll hear Holly Bowling play “Sand”.

Everyone Orchestra, Comin’ To Get Ya

Now that’s what I’m talking about, the Everyone Orchestra, making it up as they go along, singing “I’m Coming To Get Ya”, a song they wrote on the spot as an exercise in group improvisation just like they do with every song they play. The Everyone Orchestra was recorded live at the Putnam Den in Saratoga Spring, New York, also on November 4,2017.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Now here’s The Noodles playing “Sugaree”.

The Noodles, Sugaree

Oh yeah, The Noodles. They’ve got a funny name and they play the dead.

Holly Bowling was recorded live at the Woodlands Tavern in Columbus, Ohio, on November 7, 2017. Closing the show here she is now with a blues song the dead loved to play, “Morning Dew”.
