From The Archive April 18, 2021 – NJHB – “Malaysia”

Thanks Marty, this week on From The Archives I picked a song from one of my favorite NJHB albums, “Stinger”.

Chris “Stinger” Stevens was a guest star at New Jazz In Jonesboro held in downtown Jonesboro at TheArts@311 on April 6, 2013. Chris is a very versatile guitarist who plays everything from The Beatles to Santana as well as blues and jazz so he was a perfect fit as a guest guitarist for NJHB joining our regular guitarist Mike “Ziff” Lovell.

We played an exceptional set with lots of soaring guitars but unfortunately with no horns or bass. So I did audio post production on what we had and wrote an overdub script for bass and sax. Corey Emerson came to HairyLarryLand and put down the bass parts and then Cody Ballard visited later and played the sax. Both of these guys are such fine musicians that everything was first take.

Also on the album, recorded during the live show, are Carl Abraham on drums and I’m on piano. Here we are now doing a song I wrote called “Malaysia”.

And that’s NJHB playing “Malaysia” recorded at TheArts@311 and HairyLarryLand and released on their CD, “Stinger”.
