Then we heard Jawbone and Jolene do “Baby Got My Back” from their new CD, Lifestyles Of The Poor And Infamous. Jawbone blew harp with Big Red And The Soulbenders at Bluesday Tuesday. And then John Spencer did “Fading Memories” from his new CD, Road To Brigadoon. John played with the Pot Bellied Stallions at Blue Monday. On “Fading Memories” that was Mike “Zif” Lovell on lap steel and Cheryl Culp on backup vocals.

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Colin Taylor singing with the Emporium Orkestra recorded at Bunky’s on Cherry Street in Helena, Arkansas during the King Biscuit Blues Festival. The songs I’m playing tonight were recorded on Thursday, October 7, 2010. The Emporium Orkestra hosts a true acoustic open stage Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings every year during The Biscuit. Everyone is welcome to come and play. We do mostly Blues and Jug Band Music but we’ve been known to do Country, Gospel, and Rock.

Will Taylor is a friend of mine from Little Rock, Arkansas, and he came to Helena, camped at the campground, and played with us all three mornings. Here he is now doing “Prodigal Son”.

We heard my friend Will Taylor do a Johnny Cash song, “Big River” followed by “Buckets Of Rain” and “Little Sister”. Will is from Little Rock. Besides playing with us at Helena he has also played at the Craighead Forest Bandshell.

We’re getting it at Bunky’s Breakfast on Cherry Street in Helena, Arkansas. The Bunky’s Breakfast Emporium Orkestra bring Blues and Jug Band Music to the breakfast crowd at The Biscuit Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings during the festival. It’s an open stage, true acoustic, and the core band consists of campfire musicians who camp at the Fireman’s Campground. So we play all night around the campfire and then we get up after a few hours sleep and play music for breakfast. You got to love it.

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and tonight I’m featuring the Jess Hoggard Band recorded live at Bluesday Tuesday at the Newport Country Club on July 12, 2011. As you can hear they had a great night, everybody was up and dancing, enjoying the music.

We heard “High Heeled Sneakers”, “Today I Started Loving You Again”, and “Under The Boardwalk” featuring Charles Wood on vocals. Jess and Charles both sing leads and they almost always have the harmonies going too. Ivan Yarbrough plays bass and Cecil Parker on drums both have extensive Blues and R&B credentials. And Tim Hoggard played the harp for us all night.

We heard Jess sing “Catfish Blues”, “Sweet Home Chicago”, and “Key To The Highway”. It’s a great band and it was a special treat to have Jesse’s brother, Tim Hoggard, blowing the harp. They are both great showmen and they have been featured on Something Blue many times.
