Something Blue – Mike

Joe Lee, Boppin’ At The Forest

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

Jazz Alliance, Partly Cloudy, Blues In A Hurry
Joe Lee, If I Had You

All right now, that’s Joe Lee and Friends doing “If I Had You” featuring Dru Davison on Bari and our featured artist, Mike Overall, on drums. We opened with the title track from Joe’s CD, “Boppin’ At The Forest”. Then we heard Jazz Alliance play “Blues In A Hurry”. Great jazz recorded right here in Jonesboro.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

I’m Hairy Larry, host of Something Blue and I’m featuring four bands tonight all held together by the beat of an amazing jazz drummer, Mike Overall. Here’s the title track from the Jazz Alliance “Partly Cloudy” CD followed by “Cherokee” recorded live at Bebopalooza!.

Giant Steps, Autumn Leaves
Giant Steps, Black Orpheus

Now that’s what I’m talking about. It’s Giant Steps doing “Autumn Leaves” and “Black Orpheus” recorded live at Jazz Thursday on May 23, 2013. When Mike would play Latin jazz he would put his sticks up and play with his hands.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Gary Gazaway contacted me in 2011 to help him put together a show featuring guest trumpeter, Barry Reis. Gary picked Mike to play drums for that special night. Joe and I were in the audience. So here’s a Joe Lee original, “Kinda Tawny”, followed by Lisa Ahia singing “I’ve Got Rhythm” and Gary and Barry getting off on the blues. I am broadcasting this show out in the sky to Mike Overall and I know his friends and family will also enjoy this great music.
