Kenny Barron Quintet, I’m Just Sayin’

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

Joey DeFrancesco, A Change Is Gonna Come

Now that’s what I’m talking about. From his “Freedom Project” CD Joey DeFrancesco played “A Change Is Gonna Come”. Kicking us off tonight we heard the Kenny Barron Quintet play “I’m Just Sayin'”.

After I retired I went back to school studying jazz composition and I realized that all the jazz I was listening to was recorded over 50 years ago. I made it a personal project to catch up and I started blogging about 21st Century Jazz Composers at 21centjazz.com. On this show you will hear some great jazz for the new millenium.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Ok, now, here’s Joey DeFrancesco playing “Better Than Yesterday”. Then we’ll hear Kenny Barron play the title track from his new Blue Note release, “Concentric Circles”.

Kenny Barron Quintet, L’s Bop

All right now that’s the Kenny Barron Quintet playing “L’s Bop”. Before that we heard Joey DeFrancesco do the American classic “Lift Every Voice And Sing”.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Carla Bley is a leading voice in 21st century jazz composition. She brought her big band to the Monterey Jazz Festival on September 17, 2005. Closing the show tonight we’ll hear live recordings of “One Way” and “On The Stage In Cages”.
