Lee Konitz and Dan Tepfer, Through The Tunnel

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

Fela Kuti, Water No Get Enemy

Oh yeah, that’s Fela Kuti with his afrobeat hit “Water Get No Enemy”. Fela was an afrobeat pioneer and a political activist from the seventies until his death in 1997. Afrobeat continues to grow in popularity continuing his tradition of funky horns and topical lyrics.

And kicking us off tonight we heard Lee Konitz and Dan Tepfer play “Through The Tunnel”. I love the minimalist free jazz sound.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Ok now here’s Alex Hahn playing “Looking Ahead” from his new album “Emerging”. Then we’ll hear Lee Konitz and Dan Tepfer do “Rebounds”.

Now that’s what I’m talking about, Alex Hahn playing his own composition, “Rebirth”. Before that we heard Lee Konitz and Dan Tepfer do their take on the jazz standard, “Body and Soul”.

Alex Hahn played with the ASU Jazz Orchestra in November of 2018. One of the songs they did was “Psychedelic Sun” featuring a little bit of time, a little bit of pump, and a lot of blues. Listen now to his original composition “Psychedelic Sun” from his album “Emerging”. Then closing the show we’ll hear Fela Kuti sing “He Miss Road”.
