Kenny Barron Quintet, DPW
Welcome to Something Blue, I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.
Kenny Barron Quintet, I’m Just Sayin’
Johannes Mössinger-Joel Frahm, New By Two
Now that’s what I’m talking about, “New By Two”, the title track of the new CD by Johannes Mössinger and Joel Frahm. Great sparse arrangements performed by this duet.
Kicking us off tonight we heard the Kenny Barron Quintet play “DPW” and “I’m Just Sayin'” from his “Concentric Circles” album. Released in 2018 “Concentric Circles” is a return to the quintet sound for Kenny Barron.
Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Johannes Mössinger-Joel Frahm, On The Street Where You Live
Kenny Barron Quintet, Concentric Circles
Oh yeah, that’s the Kenny Barron Quintet playing the title track from his album “Concentric Circles”. Before that we heard Johannes Mössinger and Joel Frahm play a standard, “On The Street Where You Live”.
The music I’m playing tonight was all released in the last 20 years, so, most of the compositions are 21st Century. Still it’s good to hear a different take on a standard mixed in with the new songs. And it’s also good to know there is so much good music being written and played today.
Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

The OAM Trio is an international group with a Catalonian drummer, Marc Miralta, Israeli bassist, Omer Avital, and Aaron Goldberg, from New York, on piano. They all write jazz, half of the songs on their new album, “Flow”, are originals. Closing the show, here they are now with the title track of “Flow”, by Omer Avital followed by another song from the same release, John Coltrane’s “Equinox”.
