Joel Frahm – The Navigator
Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.
Christian McBride – Brother Mister
Joel Frahm – The Shoko Dance
Now that’s what I’m talking about. That was Joel Frahm playing “The Shoko Dance” and kicking us off tonight he played the title track from his album, “The Navigator”. In between there we heard Christian McBride play the blues with his own song, “Brother Mister”.
Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Only occasionally is an album release a true event. In 1968 a high school student, Danny Sher, booked Thelonious Monk at Palo Alto High School. The janitor at the school said he would tune the piano if he could record the show. 52 years later these tapes became “Palo Alto”, a live recording of jazz genius, Thelonious Monk. Here he is now playing “Blue Monk”.

Thelonious Monk – Epistrophy
Christian McBride – Theme for Kareem
All right now, that’s Chrisitan McBride playing “Theme for Kareem” from his album, “Kind Of Brown”. Before that we heard Thelonious Monk play “Epistrophy”.
