1. DJ Hairy Larry presents John Spencer
2. Something Blue – Run – 29 second spot
Thanks Marty, It’s great to be here on Arkansas Roots sharing songs from the archives of Something Blue.
I met John Spencer at Blues Fest and it wasn’t long before we had John and Tommy, The Spencer Brothers, on stage. John came to me with some songs that he and Tom Turner wrote, Tom was the lyricist and John put them to music. John is a regular at KASU events, both playing and in the audience and Tom Turner was raised at Burnt Hill, just down the road from me.
The title track for the CD is called “Road To Brigadoon” and it’s a protest song with a deep message. John is a multi instrumentalist and besides singing the lead vocals he played guitar, harmonica, mandolin, banjo, dobro, and double bass on the album. After we had all the tracks down we were looking for a female vocalist to sing harmonies on some of the songs. I found our singer, Cheryl Culp, at the ASU Farmer’s Market. We sang with her for years and are still close friends. We call her the Honey Lady, not just because of the way she sings. I eat Culp Honey every day.
Now here’s John Spencer with Cheryl Culp singing harmonies on the title track of John’s CD, “Road To Brigadoon”.
And that’s John Spencer and Cheryl Culp singing “Road To Brigadoon” released on HairyLarryLand in 2011.
Tune in to Something Blue Saturday night at 10:00 to hear Trade, John Spencer, and Niceness.
