DJ Hairy Larry Presents The West Finch Blues Band Playing Stop
From The Archives Of Something Blue 2024-04-07
Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear some fine blues played by some of Northeast Arkansas’ finest bluesmen.
I first met The West Finch Blues Band through Blues Fest. They would just rock the audience with their blues featuring slide guitar and the Hammond B3 with Leslies.
When we started raising money to build the bandshell their drummer, Keith Petrick, came by our store because he wanted to help. So they worked to make the bandshell become a reality while they played great music for us at Blues Fest.
Andy Fulkerson plays B3 in the band and he sent me this info about recordings they made in 2006.
The West Finch Blues Band was recorded by Jimbo Malthus at the Delta Recording Service in Como, Mississippi.
Playing on the recordings are Larry Rothgery, lead guitar and vocals; Keith Petrek, drums; Jeff Ryan, bass and backup vocals; Terry Carter, vocals, rhythm guitar and sax; and Andy Fulkerson, organ and piano.
We recorded over two days in 2006. West Finch included several members of Cottonmouth and was active from 1991 until the death of Keith Petrek in 2019. We still play informally on a semi-regular basis and have appeared in public three times in the last year at the Phillip Jackson ALS Benefit, at the Barbecue Fest in Jonesboro, and at a Brickhouse event.
I want to thank Andy Fulkerson for Something Blue and for Arkansas Roots. He brought us the recordings and filled in the details that put the music in an historical context.
Preserving the music from Arkansas and the Mississippi Delta is important and it’s people like Andy Fulkerson that help with our mission. If you have recordings or photos of your band, your dad’s band, or just some guys you used to know we want to hear their music, see the photos, and preserve the history.
So now, recorded in 2006, here’s The West Finch Blues Band, featuring Terry Carter, singing a Lonnie Mack song, “Stop”.
