All right now. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. True innovaters extending Bluegrass, Blues, and Jazz. Kicking us off we heard “Christmas Tune”. Then the band was joined by Dave Matthews and they sang “Communication”. These songs were recorded on December 1, 1998 at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. You can hear the whole concert on the Live Music Archive at archive.org. And you can find out more about this great band at their website, belafleck.com.

I’ve got a special message for you from all the volunteers and staff at KASU. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us to you and yours. We work hard to bring you great shows all year long and we really try to bring you quality Christmas music during the Holiday season.
I’ve played two shows this Christmas season and at both of them I played Bob Dylan’s “She Belongs To Me” with the line “For Halloween get her a trumpet and for Christmas get her a drum.” So I went looking for this song and I found Kate Gaffney.
Here’s three songs from a concert she played on September 4, 2007 at Marlin Bar & Grill in Huntington Beach, California. We’ll hear “Plea To Be”, “She Belongs To Me”, and “What Kind Of Man”. Joining her on the last two songs is Nate LaPointe playing some tasty Blues guitar. You can find out more about Kate at kategaffney.com. And Nate’s website is natelapointe.net. Lapointe ends with an e.
All right. Here she is now. Kate Gaffney.

Oh yeah, exceptional piano music played by Suzanne Michell of Little Rock, Arkansas. That was one she wrote dedicated to the great French composer, Eric Satie, called “Ode To Satie”.
I recorded Suzanne playing her Steinway baby grand in her teaching studio in Little Rock. Here’s her arrangement of two traditional songs, “Sie Big Sie” and “Anachie Gordon”.

Most of us know Suzanne Michell as a vocalist and guitarist. She and Uncle Fred perform at the Craighead Forest Bandshell every year. As you can hear she is also an exceptional pianist improvising amazing arrangements. I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to hear her play this Christmas pastiche. So you’ll just have to listen for yourself. It’s my great pleasure to bring you this wonderful music on KASU.
Here’s a Merry Christmas from Suzanne, Fred, and Hairy Larry. Suzanne Michell playing everyone’s favorite songs.
