DJ Hairy Larry Presents Chris DeClerk Singing After The Rain

Chris DeClerk – Week Long Dreamer
Thanks Marty today we’re going to hear an Arkansas songwriter sing a song from his new album.
I first met Chris DeClerk when he was playing music with Perry Osborne. Perry is a friend of mine and he helped get Blues Fest rolling playing with Jonesboogie Blues in 1991. I recorded his band, Aloysious, and he played guitar on my “Love Stuff” album. Then he went and hit the big time touring with El Bujo aka Gary Gazaway and Colonel Bruce Hampton. He took his doctorate and is now teaching in Florida.
Perry recorded an album with Chris DeClerk in Florida and he played with Chris as a duo they called DeClerk Osborne. I will post a link to DeClerk Osborne playing in Jonesboro at The Brickhouse.
Around that time is when I met Chris. We visited for a couple of hours at The Edge Coffeehouse and talked about his upcoming Arericana album that he was about to record with Perry and other jazz instructors in Florida. He told me about how when Perry was putting together a band of international jazz musicians for the album he told them it wasn’t jazz, it was Americana, and they said, “We like American music.”
I like to stay in touch so after all these years I was glad to hear about his new album, “Week Long Dreamer”. I don’t care much about genres but I would definitely call this album a rock album with a bit of blues rock spicing up the mix. I have one song for you today, “After The Rain” and I’m playing three more on Something Blue Saturday night. Chris wrote all the songs on the album. It’s on bandcamp so I’ll post a link there so you can hear the whole album
Chris lives in Little Rock but I got to record him for Something Blue just last month. He played with Matt Pierce, another outstanding Jonesboro guitarist, and I look forward to playing those recordings on Something Blue and in a future podcast.
So now, here’s Chris DeClerk singing “After The Rain” from his new album, “Week Long Dreamer”.
