All right now, we’re listening to some Jazz tonight. That was Whispering Johnson, a fantastic guitarist and composer, playing “Forty-three”. Kicking us off we heard “Forty-two” and then Hugo Contini played “Dewey Square”.
Whispering Johnson started a project where he would write a song each year on his birthday and name them for how old he was. Hence “Forty-two” and “Forty-three”.
I’m Hairy Larry and you’re listening to Something Blue on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org. Be sure you visit the Something Blue website at sbblues.com. And thanks to jamendo.com for hosting the Whispering Johnson and Hugo Contini songs.
Here’s Hugo Contini again bopping along on “Dexterity”. Then he’ll play
the Clifford Brown tune, “Sandu”. Followed by Whispering Johnson again with “Forty-four”.

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Jazz Alliance recorded live at Bebopalooza! on October 23, 2010. We heard a Jazz standard, “It Could Happen To You”.
Bebopalooza! is a Jazz Festival sponsored by KASU and held at The Edge coffeehouse on Aggie Road. At Bebopalooza! Jazz Alliance featured Ron Horton on trumpet, Craig Collison on vibes, Corey Emerson, bass; and Mike Overall, drums. Their whole set was spot on and I’m featuring four of their songs tonight.
I’m Hairy Larry and you’re listening to Something Blue on KASU home of the Blues every Saturday night. Listen to KASU at 91.9 FM or on the internet at kasu.org. We’re Jazzing it up tonight, for a change. Jazz and Blues are both great American art forms and they have a lot in common.
You can hear more Jazz Alliance at the Live Music Archive on archive.org. And you can hear their Partly Cloudy CD at hairylarryland.com. Be sure to visit the Jazz Thursday website at reverbnation.com/jazzthursday. Jazz Alliance played at Jazz Thursday last year and we have some more of their music posted there. At the Jazz Thursday website be sure to sign up for the email list and I’ll send you a reminder about upcoming shows.
Here they are now with another standard, “On Green Dolphon Street”.

Oh yeah, that’s Jazz Alliance doing a Johnny Green tune, “Body and Soul”. If you like what you’re hearing you can see Jazz Alliance live at Bella’z Restaurant in Jonesboro, Arkansas. There’s no music like live music. I go to hear them as often as I can and I hope to see you there. Bella’z will also be the home of Jazz Thursday this year.
And they’re closing the show with “Bye Bye Blackbird”. Here they are now, Jazz Alliance.
