House Of Waters, When I Play

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, Focus Poem
Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, This Is The Last Hurrah!

All right now, that’s the Jonathan Scales Fourchestra playing “Focus Poem” and “This Is The Last Hurrah!” featuring the sound of Steel Drum. Kicking us off tonight we heard House Of Waters do “When I Play” featuring hammered dulcimer. All of the music we’re hearing tonight was recorded live at the Brooklyn Bowl on October 9, 2019. All three bands on the show highlight percussionists.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Toubab Krewe is American musicians playing a fusion of Mali and American styles. Here they are with “Miriama” and “Hang Tan”.

House Of Waters, Wedding Song

Now that’s what I’m talking about, House of Waters playing “Wedding Song”. Before that we heard the Jonathan Scales Fourchestra do “Fake Buddah’s Inner Child”.

One of the things I’m doing to keep busy during the pandemic lockdown is upgrade my hifi. It’s been years since I’ve approached hifi as a hobby so I’m learning about Digital Audio Converters and high resolution audio. At the Brooklyn Bowl they have great sound and they make great recordings. Most importantly, the performances on their night of world percussion were all excellent. And they are available in the flac24 high res format for free download at archive.org. These recordings really show off a good system.

Closing the show here’s Toubab Krewe playing “Lafia” and House Of Waters with “Kites”.
