Abraham Réunion, Tryin’ Times

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

The Milt Jackson & Hank Jones All Star Quartet, Delilah, 1997
Ishkero, Oliloqui Valley

Now that’s what I’m talking about. That’s Ishkero playing “Oliloqui Valley”. Kicking us off tonight we heard Abraham Réunion do “Tryin’ Times” and then, recorded in 1997 we heard The Milt Jackson & Hank Jones All Star Quartet play “Delilah”.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

I’m Hairy Larry, host of Something Blue. Visit the Something Blue website at sbblues.com to listen anytime.

Now here’s La Banda de Santiago de Cuba with “Chan Chan” recorded in 2003
and Roy Hargrove & The RH Factor playing “I’ll Stay” in 2009.

Gilberto Gil, Toda Menina Baiana, 1998
Lalo Schifrin, Panamericana, 1999

All right now, that’s Lalo Schifrin doing “Panamericana” recorded in 1999. Before that we heard Gilberto Gil do “Toda Menina Baiana” at the 1998 Jazz A Vienne. All of the songs we’re hearing tonight were recorded at Jazz A Vienne, a jazz festival in France that’s been presenting great music for over 40 years.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

I’m Hairy Larry, host of Something Blue. For more about contemporary jazz composers visit my website at jazzcomposers.net. There’s no music like live music and the next best thing is live recordings. Visit the KASU website at kasu.org for info on their upcoming concerts and listen to From The Archives Of Something Blue, Wednesdays and Saturdays, on Arkansas Roots.

OK now, closing the show here’s the Léon Phal Quintet doing “Soulful” and McCoy Tyner with “Manalyuca” recorded in 2005. Since his work with John Coltrane in the sixties, McCoy Tyner has been one of my favorite jazz musicians.
