Creative Commons licenses are a way to share your work while maintaining your copyright protections. For my songs I use the most permissive license, Creative Commons Attribution, which means that anyone can copy and share my songs and even use my music in projects of their own like videos, games, or multimedia as long as they attribute the songs to me.
There are a number of other choices across a spectrum to the least permissive choice, Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives license which means that anyone can copy and share the work as long as they include attribution but they cannot use the work in a commercial project or integrate the work into another project.
