Thanks Marty. Today we’re going to hear some latin salsa recorded live at Blues Fest.
During the pandemic I missed performing so I started to live stream on Twitch. In 2021 I wrote “African Violet” and as soon as I was able to start playing with Bebop Beatniks again it quickly became a favorite. We started using it to open all of our shows.
So, when Blues Fest rolled around on September 24, 2023, we started our set with “African Violet”. I recorded audio and video and I made a live performance documentary of the show and then later I released the songs as a new album, “Bebop Beatniks Live At Blues Fest”. I will include links to both the video and the album at the Something Blue website, sbblues.com.
Playing at Blues Fest were the incomparable Tyler Remagen on tenor sax, Jeremy Jackson – bass, Alex Washam – drums, Conley Hunt – percussion, and I’m on piano. We’re all from Northeast Arkansas and most of us took music at ASU.
“African Violet” has a simple form, a vamp and a bridge but it’s a delight to play and always a crowd pleaser.
