John Shepherd, I’m Your Professor
Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.
Josh Parks, When My Blood Runs Cold
Now that’s what I’m talking about. That’s The Josh Parks Band playing “When My Blood Runs Cold” recorded at KASU Bluesday Tuesday, on April 17, 2018. Kicking us off tonight we heard John Shepherd play “I’m Your Professor” at Blues Fest on October 6, 2024. Playing with John were Mike Cobbs on bass and Brian Browder, drums. On this song they had a guest vocalist, someone they call Hairy Larry.
I dedicated the song to Mike Doyle who was in the audience. He’s a retired professor at ASU and former station manager at KASU, where he continues to produce “Music From The Isles” and “Mike’s Picks”.
Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Ok now, just listen to this fantastic blues guitar from John Shepherd playing “As The Years Go Passing By”. Then we’ll hear Phil Lesh and Friends do “West LA Fadeaway”.

Closing the show here’s Phil Lesh and Friends, playing a medley of “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider” recorded at Terrapin Crossroads on July 15, 2018. Some of the friends playing with Phil that night were Something Blue favorites, Karl Denson, Eric Krasno, Stu Allen, and Holly Bowling. Phil Lesh passed on October 25, 2024. He was a founding member of the Grateful Dead, the most popular touring act of the twentieth century. After Jerry Garcia died he continued playing with Phil Lesh and Friends keeping the dead alive.
