Jazz Alliance – Live at Jonesboro Public Library on 2011-09-27

Jazz Alliance, Black Orpheus

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

Chet Baker, Blues in the Closet

Now that’s what I’m talking about. That’s Chet Baker playing “Blues In The Closet” from his album, “The Italian Sessions”. Kicking us off tonight we heard Jazz Alliance play “Black Orpheus” recorded live at the Jonesboro Public Library on September 27, 2011.

Something Blue is hosted on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

I’m Hairy Larry, host of Something Blue. Visit the Something Blue website at sbblues.com to listen anytime and for links to more music from the featured musicians.

Ok now, from his album, “Liberation Blues”, here’s Orrin Evans playing “Meant To Shine” and “Devil Eyes”.

Chet Baker – The Italian Sessions

Chet Baker, Barbados
Jazz Alliance, Recordame

All right now, that’s Jazz Alliance playing “Recordame”. Before that we heard Chet Baker do “Barbados”. There’s no music like live music and all the music we’re hearing tonight was recorded live in concert.

Something Blue is hosted on KASU, 91.9 FM, and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

“Liberation Blues” was recorded at the Smoke Jazz Club in New York City, immediately following the passing of bassist Dwayne Burno. Orrin Evans said, “In my eyes, Burno is now a “Free Man”…. but with that freedom, we’ve lost a great man right here on earth. So, there’s still a blues we feel missing our brother and friend.”

Here’s Orrin Evans now playing “Mumbo Jumbo”, followed by Chet Baker playing “Ballata In Forma Di Blues”.
