Joe Lee – Blackeyed Peas

Joe Lee, Blackeyed Peas

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

The B3 Kings, In The Hole

Now that’s what I”m talking about. That’s the B3 Kings playing “In The Hole”. They were recorded live at The Plough And Stars in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on November 18, 2025. I just love the organ work and the Memphis sound.

Kicking us off tonight we heard from an originator of the Memphis sound, Joe Lee, playing the hit single, “Black Eyed Peas”.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

I’m Hairy Larry, host of Something Blue. Visit the Something Blue website at sbblues.com to listen anytime and for links to more songs from the musicians we’re featuring tonight.

Next up we’re hearing E.C. Brown playing the Herbie Mann hit, “Memphis Underground”. I recorded E.C. Brown several times when he was in Jonesboro. He’s a fantastic organist and vocalist. “Memphis Underground” was recorded at Blues Fest 93 with Joe Lee on flute and Mike Overall on drums.

Then we’ll hear a regular Joe Lee jam session recorded at Blues Fest 2005. I’ll let Joe introduce all the great Arkansas and Memphis musicians playing “Night Train”.

Closing the show we’ll hear The B3 Kings playing “Hey Joe” followed by John Shepherd doing a completely different “Hey Joe”. Until next time this is Hairy Larry reminding you once again, blues is the mainstream.
