Joe Lee, Four

Welcome to Something Blue. I’m Hairy Larry and I’ve got the blues, for you.

Joe Lee, Kansas City Blues
E. C. Brown, Let The Good Times Roll

Now that’s what I’m talking about, Mr. E.C. Brown on the organ with Joe Lee and Mike Overall at Blues Fest 93. E.C. sang “Let The Good Times Roll”. Before that we heard Joe Lee play “Four” and Ronnie Coletta sang “Kansas City Blues” at Blues Fest 95.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

I’m Hairy Larry, host of Something Blue and tonight I’m playing recordings I made for Something Blue in the nineties, over 20 years ago.

Coming up next we’ll hear E.C. Brown play “Memphis Underground” and “The Chicken And The Hawk”. Then Joe Lee will do “Night Train”. So, right now, dig Joe Lee’s flute on the sixties classic, “Memphis Underground”.

We were priviliged to have Bix Smith perform at Blues Alley in Jonesboro. Like many acoustic acts the stories were as much a part of the show as the songs. Listen now to how Bix Smith got introduced to jazz.

Bix Smith, Mood Indigo
Bix Smith, Your Feets Too Big
Bix Smith, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans

All right now, Bix Smith, recorded for Something Blue right here in Jonesboro.

Something Blue is broadcast on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.

Hairy Larry and The Flying Hungarians were the house band at Blues Alley. Here are three songs recorded with guest Hungarian, Jay Johnson, doing what we did best. Please enjoy “Baby What You Want Me To Do”, “Big Boss Man”, and “The Thrill Is Gone”. Until next time this is Hairy Larry reminding you once again, blues is the mainstream.
