Delta Legends – Hog Jowl Blues
Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear a Memphis Classic recorded just last month at WhatEverLand.
Just like Something Blue John Shepherd and I go back 35 years. He was a regular performer at Blues Fest and over the years I have played his amazing music many times on Something Blue. I recorded two albums by John Shepherd, “So Low” and “Too Blue” and he played on my “Lil Sonny Boy Hisself” album.

Then, before the pandemic, we started Delta Legends and we played a lot at clubs and festivals recording several more albums. We continued playing after the pandemic and then last fall we added David McCulley on bass and Ben Ben Adler on drums, both of them legends in their own right.
We’ve been recording at John Shepherd’s WhatEverLand studio outside of Wynne, Arkansas and we’ve released two more albums, “Mr. John B. Shepherd” and “Hog Jowl Blues” with the last two sessions still in the can.
Today I’m opening up the can to play a song we recorded on May 15, 2026.
Rufus Thomas was another delta legend, from Memphis, Tennessee. He recorded for Chess and for Sun and had several dance hits. He was a DJ at WDIA in Memphis. You can see why I relate. Let’s see, singing, check; dancing, check; DJ, check.
Now I love to do “The Funky Chicken” but everybody’s favorite is “Walking The Dog”.
So now, recorded on May 15, 2026, here’s Delta Legends singing “Walking The Dog” featuring David McCulley on vocals with Ben Ben Adler and myself on background vocals.
