Chris DeClerk – Solo
Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear a Little Rock songwriter sing a song from a live album.
When I was first in the ASU Jazz Department I met Perry Osborne and Leon McEntire. They guested with The Flying Hungarians on our “Love Stuff” album with John Sifford on drums and my son, Uldis, on bass.
Much later, after Perry had been touring with El Bujo and Colonel Bruce Hampton, he recorded an album with his cousin, Chris DeClerk. So when Chris was in Jonesboro we met at The Edge Coffeehouse and talked for a while and he shared some songs. I played some of the songs from his album with Perry on Something Blue.
Once again, much later, I saw that he was playing at Stage Too, in Jonesboro. I got in touch with him and got permission to record his show. Playing with him was Matt Pierce, an outstanding guitarist from Jonesboro. I recorded his show and played some of those songs on Something Blue.
So when he released a live album I was all ears.
It sounds great. Just him singing and playing acoustic guitar.
I picked one he wrote, “Crying & Sobbin'” to play for you today. It has funny words with wry wisdom.
