All right now, that’s Sun Ra & His Arkestra playing “Door of the Cosmos”. Kicking us off we heard Frank Zappa play “The Black Page”.

As a jazz composition student I have a great interest in 21st Century jazz composers. Although Frank Zappa and Sun Ra both died in 1993 I think any discussion of 21st century jazz is incomplete without them. As composers and performers both of them were ahead of their time and they remain influential today.
